The United Methodist Hour is committed to a concept we are calling The Serving Initiative. We believing that Serving as the "hands and feet of Jesus" is the C.U.R.E. for our "chronic" world.
What is CURE?
C-- Compassion--- Our world works best when people learn to look past their own interests to the interests of others. This only happens by getting out of our own way and looking to the needs of our brothers. The CURE begins with a "soul change"-- compassion.
U-- Understanding--- Real change continues as we seek to understand the conditions, challenges and opportunities of our world. Learning the stories, causes and effects of such issues as pandemic poverty unveils not only our challenges but our potential as well.
R-- Response--- Change happens when we respond as the "hands and feet of Jesus". "Sorry" doesn't cut it in our faith walk. We must put flesh on what we believe and make a difference in our communities.
E-- Encouragement-- But, real change only continues and transforms when we become something more and deeper through Christ. Loving Jesus is not enough... We must learn to Love LIKE Jesus, too.

We want to know where our viewers and listeners are serving, whether it's on a mission team to Honduras, slinging a hammer for Katrina reconstruction on the Gulf Coast, or maybe serving in a local soup kitchen. You can let us know how you are being used by God as his hands and feet by emailing us at serving@thehour.org, or by sending us a note to The United Methodist Hour, P.O. Box 16657, Hattiesburg, MS 39404. We will list your name or organization on the credits at the end of our program.
Another aspect of the serving initiative is our partnering with Church World Service, a relief, development, and refugee assistance ministry supported by The United Methodist Church and other denominations.
